David Letterman: "Romney's Yellow!"

Mitt Romney with all his brass seems to be showing a bit of yellow around the gills; so says David Letterman. He may be using "Romney not showing up on his show" as a laugh line... But when he tells his audience… “DON'T VOTE FOR ROMNEY!”... I know he's serious. Thanks David! thinkingblue

Is Romney's Brain About To Blow?

Just read below:

Romney talks polls, 'character assassination,' and Mass. health law
Mitt Romney took part in three network TV interviews Wednesday night that veered in wildly different directions.
With ABC, Romney addressed polls that show him trailing President Obama, with NBC he promoted the Massachusetts health law that was a model for the national law he has pledged to repeal, and with CBS he accused the Obama administration of "character assassination." Addressing polls, Romney told ABC's David Muir that "Frankly at this early stage, polls go up, polls go down." And he pointed to the first presidential debate - one week from tonight - as a potential turning point in the race.
Read more about that here
Asked by NBC News how he can "better connect with Americans," he referred to the universal health care law he signed into law as Governor of Massachusetts. Romney has only rarely referred to the Massachusetts law, which Democrats used as a model for the national health reform law - Obamacare - that Romney has pledged to repeal.
"I think throughout this campaign as well, we talked about my record in Massachusetts, don't forget - I got everybody in my state insured," Romney said. "One hundred percent of the kids in our state had health insurance. I don't think there's anything that shows more empathy and care about the people of this country than that kind of record."
Romney also referenced his church, another rarity during the campaign, although members of his Mormon congregation were featured prominently as character witnesses at the Republican National Convention.
"I think people have the chance, who watched our Republican convention, to see the lives that I've had a chance to touch during my life, to understand that as I served as a pastor of a congregation with people of all different backgrounds and economic circumstances that I care very deeply about the American people, people of different socio-economic circumstances," Romney told NBC.
Separately, in an interview with CBS News, Romney suggested the Obama campaign has engaged at times in "character assassination" against him.

He was asked by CBS News' Jan Crawford about conservatives who say he should be more aggressive and whether he will be in the coming month.
"This is a campaign, not about character assassination, even though that's what I think has come from the Obama camp by and large," he said.
"Do you think the Obama camp engaged in character assassination?," asked Greenberg.
"Oh yeah, sure, they try and completely misrepresent my point of view, along with why I'm in this race, but I think fundamentally the American people are interested in who can make their life better," he said. "Who can make people get better jobs and better incomes. And I can. He's proven that he does not have the capability to do that. I do, I've proven that throughout my career. I think that's what it's going to come down to, so I listen to a lot of advice but frankly I'm going to keep on my message, which is I know how to get this economy going, create jobs, more take home pay for the American people."
SAY WHAT? tb
Sure, Mr. Romney, you NEVER lie. I think you lie so much you don't know the difference between TRUTH and MENDACITY! tb

Oh yes, Mr. Romney you really care about people!
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." ~Mitt Romney~
This man needs a brain-scan! I have said this once and I am saying it again. For the most part Romney is acting no better., no worse than the rest of the GOP hypocrites but as least the teapublicans stay somewhat on course in their bigotry and misinformation... Romney is ALL OVER THE PLACE and doesn't seem to have direction??? I hope someone gets this man to a hospital, fast; he’s a time bomb ready to blow. Scary Stuff!
thinkingblue
PS: I first came to this realization when I saw this mocking picture on facebook, I commented at the time that perhaps, indeed, Romney should see a brain specialist to try and find out why... He is making NO SENSE at all.
The reason for the above picture was this gaff (below) that Romney made upon his wife's safe emergency landing of the jet she was a passenger on. tb
Ole Mitt needs a brain scan... I'm serious; I think he has a growing tumor on one of his frontal lobes or both. thethinkingblue
EXCERPT: THE frontal lobes of the brain are the most anterior, which means they are positioned right behind your forehead and at the top-front of your head. There is a left lobe and a right lobe.
The frontal lobe is surrounded by five other important brain sections: the parietal lobe, the occipital lobe, the cerebellum, the brain stem, and the temporal lobe. The frontal lobe is a critical center and it controls the "essence" of our humanity, according to Dr. Donald Stuss of The Rotman Research Institute.

The frontal lobes, which are also called the cerebral cortex, are the seat of emotions and judgments related to sympathy, which is the ability to feel sorrow for someone else's suffering, and empathy, which the ability to understand another's feelings and problems. They are also the seat of understanding humor, including subtle witticisms and word plays. The frontal lobes also recognizes sarcasm and irony. And they are where recognition of deception occurs. The frontal lobes control the processes called "mentalizing" upon which our socialization is based; this is the ability to understand another's mental processes.

Other functions that the frontal lobes control are the functioning of sequencing events, which is the ability to plan a series of movements needed to perform a multi-step task, like making a sandwich. Spontaneity of facial expression and of interaction with others is also controlled by the frontal lobes as is the function of flexibility in thinking processes, for example, being able to conceive of and choose between complex alternatives in a social environment. The problematic opposite of this flexibility is perseveration, which is the fixed persistence of a single thought. Both attentiveness of focus on a single task and resistance to emotional lability, which is commonly referred to as mood changes or mood swings, are controlled by the frontal lobes.

The ability to solve problems, which often depends on flexible thinking, and the ability to correctly express language are both controlled by the frontal lobes, as well. In addition to this, our personalities are controlled by the frontal lobes. This is not all, though, as they also control movement, initiation, emotional impulsivity, memory, sexual behavior, and judgment.

Creationism – The Study of Darkness
Evolution – The Study of LET THERE BE LIGHT!
"I'm sorry but I have learned the art of Critical thinking, therefore I can and will absorb science." thinkingblue
---
I found this on facebook this morning and thought it interesting enough to share on some of my blogs for those who also have learned the art of Critical thinking.
From Frank's Facebook Post: Christians who view the stories of the Old Testament as historical fact have come to be known as creationists, and many argue that the world was created by God just a few thousand years ago.

"The Earth is not 6,000 or 10,000 years old," Bill Nye said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's not. And if that conflicts with your beliefs, I strongly feel you should question your beliefs."

Millions of Americans do hold those beliefs, according to a June Gallup poll that found 46 percent of Americans believe God created humans in their present form about 10,000 years ago.
Tell me it ain't so! :(
Check it out here:

Bill Nye: Creationism Threatens U.S. Science

---
46% - This type of ignorance is not only disgusting it’s frightening; To think of the enormous potential of the human brain and how so many choose to squander the inherent possibilities of it, on frivolous and primitive thinking is beyond my grasp on reality. But these science deniers have also had their brains taken over by fear, (supernatural dogma and fear go hand and hand) and FEAR is something that is almost impossible to overcome. I say “almost impossible” but it’s not beyond potentiality since we homo-sapiens all share this wondrous organ called a brain that can be manipulated (the brain has evolved to such phenomenal immeasurable heights we all are capable of turning our thoughts away from the darkness of superstition and into the light of cogitation) but judging from the witless remarks below from this site: http://www.noanswersingenesis.org.au/cre_not_alt_to_evo2.htm
IT AIN’T A GONNA BE AN EASY TASK FOR SOME! thinkingblue

"Creationism is not the alternative to Evolution, ignorance is"
John Stear
Below is a growing collection of responses to this web site in the form of emails and posts to my Message Board and Guest Book . They are presented with spelling and grammatical errors intact.
I have not posted these comments simply to denigrate those with opposing views. However, the poor spelling and grammar in many of the messages seems indicative of grass roots fundamentalists (creationists) and reinforces the fears of scientific educators that to allow creationism in our schools is to endanger the future education of our children.

May God have mercy on you in your blindness, your foolishness and your ignorance.

MOST OF WHAT I'VE READ ON NAIG IS GARBAGE AND THE REST OF IT IS LIES.
I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT YOUR IGNORANCE IS YOUR BLISS AND THAT YOU TRULY DON'T BELIEVE ALL THAT STUFF ON THE WEB SITE. IGNORANCE CAN BE OVERCOME WITH TRUTH AND WISDOM, BUT A BELIEF IN THE SATANIC INFLUENCED CONCEPT OF EVOLUTION CAN ONLY BE OVERCOME WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT OVERWHELMS YOU.(REFER TO THE SUBJECT OF THIS EMAIL IF YOU WANT TO KNOW THE OUTCOME OF RESISTING THE HOLY SPIRIT.)
I WILL PRAY THAT THE GOOD LORD WHO MADE YOU WILL ENLIGHTEN YOU, THAT YOU FALL ON YOUR KNEES BEFORE HIM, THAT YOU ADMIT YOU ARE A SINNER AND THAT YOU ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR CREATOR, YOUR LORD , AND YOUR SAVIOR.
ENOUGH OF ME TELLING YOU WHAT YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU NEED TO DO ABOUT IT.
WHILE YOU PONDER YOUR FUTURE, ALSO PONDER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS, IF YOU PLEASE. LET'S GO ALL THE WAY BACK. WHERE DID THE ENERGY THAT EXPLODED INTO MATTER(E=MC2) COME FROM THAT SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED THE BIG BANG? WHAT NATURAL OCCURENCE ALLOWED ENERGY TO TURN INTO MATTER, ANYWAY? WHAT DETERMINED AT WHAT TEMP E=MC2 OCCURES? EVEN ENSTEIN,WHO FIGURED OUT THE FORMULA KNEW IT ALL STARTED WITH GOD. WHERE DID LIGHT COME FROM AND WHAT DETERMINES ITS SPEED? DID IT EVOLVE? AND IF IT DID, FROM WHAT? UNTILYOU CAN ANSWER THE ABOVE DON'T HAND ME ANY GARBAGE ABOUT HOW INORGANIC MATTER TURNED INTO LIFE. If you dislike Creationism and Kent Hovind so much. Why haven't you offered up some real proof for Evilution and collected the $250.000 cash from Mr Hovind. it should be easy money for you, since you are so smart!! what did the giraffes evolve from?? they must have evolved from something right?? YOU ARE PRIME EXAMPLES OF THE GOD DELUSION. if you believe it or not you will stand before Jesus one day.
It will be mighty hot in Hell. Jesus Christ died for my sins and your sins too.
Just accept him as Saviour and you will be able to see the truth. I will be praying for you. I love you. I cry for your Salvation. I want you my brother to know the truth about Jesus. You do not have to go to Hell! Eternity is a Long, Long Time my Brother John Stear

And so it goes, on and on with indoctrination closing the minds of 46% of us Americans who have developed fear to such a degree that not one ray of light will ever penetrate their world of darkness. The saddest thing of all is the fact that these people think they derive happiness from such delusions. Just like children seem to be happy with thoughts of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. :(
But the good news is if allowed, they grow up. :-)

A Skunk By Any Other Name Would Smell As Foul

"The professor said she is a Native American, a person of color, and you can see she's not," Scott Brown said
When I heard Senator Brown utter those words during the first debate with Elizabeth Warren, I at first thought… “NO, HE DIDN’T SAY THAT DID HE?”… Oh yes he did and with a serious unflinching look upon his face. Bigotry Gone Wild has happened to our country, once thought of as something under wraps, within the fringe circles of the ignorant is now, not only ubiquitously In Your Face but also has grown legs of PROUD OF IT.
I have to repeat: A NATIVE AMERICAN, A PERSON OF COLOR, AND YOU CAN SEE SHE’S NOT.” What was his point? Oh, I see, he wanted to pin that tag on her to reveal how she used her “person of color” identification as a voucher to make things easier for herself.
A whopping big, SAY WHAT?
It’s obvious that his use of the term “Check the Box as a Person of Color” indicates that people of color get more perks than white people (which he is also accusing Warren of being with his remark… “She Said She Is Native American…You Can See She’s Not” in other words... SHE'S WHITE!)
An even BIGGER, ‘SAY WHAT?’…
*¨*•.¸¸Mr. Brown you’ve got an ugly mindset ¸¸. •*¨*

Romney's Success vs. Romney's Greed vs. Romney's Over Ambition

Lawrence  commenting on the above facebook picture, wrote:  Since when is ambition a bad thing? Do you think Obama ran for President because he was not ambitious?
My reply to him was: Oh yes, ambition seems like a good thing to those who believe that success is all about one’s accumulation of THINGS like $$$$. Success to a Thinking person has many aspects, the least of which is amassing material wealth.(which actually falls into a catagory more like GREED.) thinkingblue
CASE IN POINT:
overambitious adj Excessively ambitious; the aims were overambitious, therefore few were achieved…

Excerpt: The Mitt Romney campaign, defending his smirk-a-thon:

Questions & Answers:
Don’t you think it was appropriate for the embassy to condemn the controversial movie in question? Are you standing up for movies like this?
– Governor Romney rejects the reported message of the movie. There is no room for religious hatred or intolerance.
Hmm. "No room for religious hatred or intolerance." Gee, why does that sound so familiar? Oh yeah. Because that's what the U.S. Embassy in Egypt said yesterday.
Keeping in mind that the embassy's statement was not about the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi—and that for Romney to characterize it as such is false—note that it says basically the same thing that the Romney campaign is now saying. "Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy," the statement read. "We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."
So if Mitt Romney "rejects" the movie ... and the U.S. Embassy statement "rejects" the movie ... then what the hell was this whole episode about?
The only answer that I can come up with that makes any sense is that it was about Mitt Romney's unbridled ambition—and his complete lack of judgment. In other words, yes, Mitt Romney is unhinged. And perhaps part of the explanation for that can be found in this fact: Gallup's latest tracking poll has Mitt Romney down by seven full points. The Difference Between Greed and Success
The general perception in the US, thanks to the media largely, is that success and greed are one and the same. But the difference is huge. Both might result in wealth for those striving for their goals, but the intentions are what make a big difference.
Greedy people look for power and any means to achieve that power is fair game, to them. History is replete with many examples ranging from Hitler to Saddam. Some people would say that Bill Gates is also greedy and indeed he has great power and wealth.
The difference is that Bill Gates obtained his wealth by providing a service or product to people that they voluntarily wanted. Competitors might not agree as to his benevolence and indeed he was a hard charging business man. But he became successful because he offered a product that people wanted.
Greed is defined by Wikopedia as “an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods.” That is interesting but not too helpful in that who is to decide that something is excessive. I would go further and say that a greedy person has the desire to possess wealth or goods and that person is willing to subjugate others to obtain that wealth.

The Birth of Intolerance

and the reason why an Anti-Islam filmmaker is in hiding.

First off this horrific and very sad event is one of the reasons why I believe all Fundamentalists are wacky. Someone makes a film debunking Mohammed as a godlike creature and depicts him only as a flesh and blood life form (which he was as well as Jesus et al.) with all the susceptibility that comes with being human and the next thing you know... some mob inculcated to believe what is UNBELIEVABLE, starts to murder anyone resembling the one who dared render a pejorative opinion about their particular Supernatural Being… (The most alarming and chilling aspect about these attacks are: it doesn’t matter if they get the one who, in their eyes, is the guilty perpetrator, they kill anyone who simply resembles the guy…) Silly me, I thought religion and god was about teaching human beings to get along with one another.
From what I’ve experienced since I came out of the atheist closet was that contrasting religions teach the opposite of getting along.  It appears, all religious belief systems, similar or dissimilar, that have been manufactured around the globe, tell their believers that theirs is the only True Belief and all others should be denounced as false.
And so, the birth of intolerance thus began. thinkingblue

Anti-Islam filmmaker in hiding after protests

By SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER
LOS ANGELES (AP) — An Israeli filmmaker based in California went into hiding after a YouTube trailer of his movie attacking Islam's prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya. The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three American members of his staff were killed.

Speaking by phone Tuesday from an undisclosed location, writer and director Sam Bacile remained defiant, saying Islam is a cancer and that the 56-year-old intended his film to be a provocative political statement condemning the religion.

Protesters angered over Bacile's film opened fire on and burned down the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi. Libyan officials said Wednesday that Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed Tuesday night when he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff as the building came under attack by a mob firing machine guns and rocket propelled grenades.

In Egypt, protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy in Cairo and replaced an American flag with an Islamic banner.

"This is a political movie," said Bacile. "The U.S. lost a lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're fighting with ideas."

Bacile, a California real estate developer who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, said he believes the movie will help his native land by exposing Islam's flaws to the world. MORE HERE:

PS: I came across this blog which sums it up so eloquently:
One summer’s morning, around the age of 13, I was biking down a leafy tree-lined street in my hometown when I happened upon someone I had not seen in awhile. He was a boy a year younger than me, and he had a reputation for being wild. I suspect his reputation was owed more to his frank honesty, though, than to his actual wildness. In that small town, you tended to collect all sorts of reputation — if you were honest.

He and I entwined the handlebars of our bikes — a trick that stabilized the bikes nicely, allowing us to sit them without needing to put our feet down to stay upright. Then we were off telling each other all the news fit to forget. And I have indeed forgotten most of it, but the one thing I still vividly recall came towards the end of our conversation when my friend confided that he’d recently had an experience of indescribable bliss. I had never heard of the word, “bliss”, and had to ask what it was.

As he spoke, his face took on a radiance somewhere between happiness and joy. He told me he didn’t know the right words to describe his experience, but it had to be what adult‘s meant when they talked of being “seized by the Holy Spirit“. Though only twelve, he was completely serious. And he was certain — absolutely certain — he’d discovered life’s greatest and most precious gift.

While I was skeptical of his claims to being seized by the supernatural, I could not ignore his sincerity. Consequently, I hung on every word until the very moment I suddenly recognized he was talking about his having discovered masturbation.

Please share this: I cannot believe how sick the GOP Tea Party really is... Boycott Scott Van Duzer’s restaurant… FOR WHAT? Dogs of War, Euthanized

Wonder what priority theses dogs would be on Romney's Laundry List of Important Items?
Never mind, I know, I just asked Seamus.

We human beings are a pitiful lot... We are cruel to each other so it's no shock when we are unkind to Earth’s other animals especially the ones we consider pets like dogs that work alongside us as co-workers helping to achieve some social goal.
Get this, the Military Bureaucracy is euthanizing war dogs because it is too expensive and there’s too much red-tape to ship them back to the states for adoption. Just another sampling of the bureaucratic machine where everything has a number and everything has an expiration date of usefulness.
This sounds way too farfetched for America but I could almost see a world where, if they could get away with it, war injured human beings who cost too much money to re-acclimate back into society, would also get euthanized.
Here’s a thought, with all the insanity coming out of the GOP TEA PARTY CAMP where women, the poor, the disenfranchised due to race, religion (if it’s not Christian) or sexual orientation are considered problems, a vote for the Romney/Ryan ticket will make this deplorable vision just a matter of time. thinkingblue
By Scott MacFarlane, Washington Bureau Chief

SAN ANTONIO, Texas —

They survived running toward death and danger, but some locally trained military dogs of war are not making it home.

Instead, they're being euthanized.

Channel 2's Scott MacFarlane learned of an obscure U.S. law that is making it tough for military dogs to be adopted after their service is over.

Army Sgt. David Varkett survived his tour of duty in Afghanistan, because his unit included Nooshka, a 5- year-old dog that sniffed out an improvised bomb before it exploded.

"This dog has saved my life and many others," Varkett said. "She became a little local hero, finding those IEDs."

The U.S. military is now breeding 100 puppies a year, raising them and then training them for the front lines.

In an era of roadside bomb warfare, the bomb-sniffing dogs are remarkably useful. McFarlane went to Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas, where Georgia military canine units are training. He said the training is exhausting and intense.

Sgt. Jarred Palmer of Georgia, a Ft. Benning soldier, and his unit's Belgian Malinois, Zzazu, are inseparable.

"The dog lives with you, she's your best friend. She's your partner," Palmer said.

UNBELIEVABLE; I just blogged about war dogs that are being euthanized because they've become too expensive to save. We all know by now, what importance dogs would be on Romney’s laundry list. thinkingblue

President Obama,He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

If only the GOP Republicans, Tea Party members and countless others around the globe who practice hate, could believe in brotherhood, perhaps the human race would have a foreseeable future to live in peace... I CAN DREAM CAN'T I? Thethinking Blue
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

But You Didn't - A Mother's Poem To Her Military Son Who Was Killed In Afghanistan

It seems we've all but forgotten that the USA is still at war. What is worse, a presidential candidate running in the 2012 election has also forgotten. Romney and the RNC did not mention this war or give homage to the brave soldiers who are dying as I write this. What is wrong with our country, how can we be so callous? When the Bush/Cheney administration so coldly and calculatedly declared war, not on just one front but two, their many followers were all over themselves cheering the troops on, with bumper stickers, flags and blogs that called those of us who hated and were against these wars un-American. But now since the war is not seen as a way to achieve political clout, not a word is mentioned about our young troops who are still in harm’s way. But the families of those still fighting are feeling the pain. They don’t have the luxury of forgetting about the horrors of war. They are living it every day and will continue to live until their lives have ended. It's unfair and pathetic beyond belief. thinkingblue

Taking A Wild Ride With Jennifer Granholm

JENNIFER...

Jennifer Granholm electrified the Democratic National Convention crowd
Thursday with a bold, energetic, and above all loud speech that took direct aim at Republican nominee Mitt Romney. (Watch above.)
The former Michigan governor hardly seemed to need the microphone in front of her as she shouted her words to a fired-up audience.
"I'm Jennifer Granholm, from the great state of Michigan, where the trees are just the right height," she began, in a reference to one of Mitt Romney's more inexplicable comments from the campaign trail. (Granholm winked after the remark to drive home the point.)
Then she went after Romney's business record. "How did he make that fortune? And at whose expense? You know too often he made it at the expense of middle-class Americans. Year after year, it was profits before people." This, she said, contrasts with President Barack Obama, who "saved more than 1 million American jobs" with the auto rescue.
"But it wasn't just Michigan" that benefited she continued, gaining steam. "In Colorado, the auto rescue saved more than 9,000 jobs! In Virginia, more than 19,000 jobs!"
As the crowd broke into loud cheers, Granholm continued to yell out state job numbers until she arrived at Michigan ("211,000 good-paying, American jobs!") After a few more remarks, and with the crowd in a frenzy, Granholm stepped away from the podium and pumped her fist repeatedly, pro-athlete style. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/06/jennifer-granholm-speech-democratic-convention_n_1863181.html

Hey Paul Ryan, Social Darwinism Is Insane and It Doesn't Work!

Just ask Sister Simone Campbell one of the Nuns On The Bus.
This is one fantastic lady. Listen to her riveting speech given at the Democratic National Convention, she moved me to tears. I don't know how anyone can applaud the Ryan type mentality... An Ayn Rand Social Darwinism Ideology of SCREW THE POOR, and LET THE CHILDREN GO HUNGRY (in other words, a survival of the financially fittest). I'm not religious but I sure can relate to Sister Simone’s message, she's the epitome of kindness and compassion while Romney and Ryan are the embodiment of harshness and indifference. As long as their rich butts are comfortable, to hell with those who are less fortunate and barely survive. (As if, that's what being human is all about) Please read the article below written in December of 2010, not much has changed since then as far as the Ayn Rand philosophy of Paul Ryan. Greed is good and sympathy is bad (and only for Liberals). PATHETIC!
thinkingblue
Social Darwinism is generally understood to use the concepts of struggle for existence and survival of the fittest to justify social policies which make no distinction between those able to support themselves and those unable to support themselves.

Cut the Dept. But Spare The Rod
Congress can cut the budget without hurting Social Security, Medicare, and other social insurance programs.

By David R. Francis /

America is whipping itself into a frenzy because of debt. Listen to the chairmen of President Obama's bipartisan fiscal commission and other deficit-cutters and you're likely to hear an "underlying moral tone," as economist John Irons puts it. The debt-cutters say Americans need to:

To reduce national debt, 'shared sacrifice' necessary, deficit chairs say
Everything you need to know about Obama's $3 trillion debt plan
Moody’s hints at move that could be catastrophic for US debt

•Face up to hard times.

•Punish themselves.

•"Purge the soul of the evil deficit-spirit," says Mr. Irons, research and policy director at the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), a liberal think tank in Washington.

It's not that more budget discipline isn't needed. A MacArthur Foundation poll finds that more than 70 percent of midterm voters say it is "very important" that Congress take steps to reduce the national debt. Another 24 percent say it is "somewhat important."

But does it have to be so punitive? Irons is one author of a new "budget blueprint for economic recovery and fiscal responsibility" that would spare low-income and moderate-income families from the "drastic cuts" and some other austerity measures in the chairmen's plan.

"We strongly oppose the idea that America's fiscal challenges should be solved by cutting longstanding social insurance programs [ Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.] that have brought security and prosperity to millions of Americans," says the 84-page "blueprint" drafted by the EPI, Demos, and the Century Foundation. These programs "have proven to be effective mechanisms for limiting widespread catastrophic hardship" during the Great Recession.

Nevertheless, the plan forecasts a balanced budget by 2018, where federal income matches federal outgo, excluding interest on the federal debt.

One way the plan does that is by taxing the rich more sternly than at present. "Millionaires can afford to bear some of the burden of deficit reduction," says Irons. Income inequality has grown for three decades.

For example: Capital gains and dividends would be taxed the same as regular income at a marginal rate as high as 39.6 percent, instead of today's 15 percent. Millionaires would also pay a Social Security tax of 5.4 percent on most income. (At present, only $106,800 of income is subject to the payroll tax.) Their heirs would be subject to a tax on estates exceeding $2 million. The $1 trillion in annual tax breaks – various credits, preferences, and deductions like the one for interest on mortgages – would be trimmed down for the rich.

Many members of Congress are rich themselves or beneficiaries of campaign donations and clout of the well-to-do. So taxing the rich isn't popular in Congress. It kills jobs, conservatives claim.

Irons says he's "under no illusion" that Washington will pick up this blueprint and pass it in bulk. But he hopes some of the plan's specific suggestions for boosting revenue will catch on.

Another obstacle to this liberal plan is that it would boost the size of government. By 2020, federal revenues would equal 21.7 percent of gross domestic product, the nation's output of goods and services. Over the past five decades, it has averaged 18.2 percent of GDP. One major reason: Uncle Sam will pick up more health-care costs.

The 2020 federal deficit would be "manageable," the plan maintains. Even though federal debt held by the public would grow from 66 percent today to 83 percent of GDP, Irons maintains the United States won't suffer the fate of Ireland because the US remains "the safest place in the world to put your money" and deficits will be under control.

Stacy and Zoe Lihn The Real People Behind Obamacare

So, in short, little Zoe Lihn will die if Romney is elected president. Stacy lihn's speech was poignant and Real, it was a glimpse behind the Republican “Rah Rah Shish Koom Bah” rhetoric of ending Obamacare to make sure insurance companies get to, once again, choose who will live and who will die. People like Stacy and Zoe are Real and live with Real heartache, Real suffering and Real sorrow. But to Romney, Ryan and his Teapublicans, these people are invisible; their right-wing plans never mention the hearts that beat inside human beings who become victims of a cruel system. Hey, Mr. Romney I hope you were able to see Little Zoe last night, perhaps if you did hear her story, you might realize she is Real and deserves so much more than what your cold, uncaring heart is willing to give her. thinkingblue

Stacey Lihn to address the convention Tuesday night. Her daughter Zoe was born with a heart defect, but can now get the care she needs.
At 6 months old, Zoe was halfway to her lifetime cap.
But because the Affordable Care Act prohibits health plans from setting a lifetime dollar limit on most benefits, Zoe can now live a life without limits.
Lihn and her husband have been taking their daughter to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment.
She was diagnosed in utero with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
It's fatal without early intervention and requires three open-heart surgeries over several years.

GOP Labor Day - Take Country Back To Poorhouse Days

Yes Labor was once respected and rewarded with laws in our country but now thanks to the GOP, Republicans, Reaganites and now the Tea Party, those benefits, hard won by the working class, are fading fast. If the GOP keeps on lying and people keep on believing their lies all of these labor advancements will be a thing of the past. Ignorance is not bliss unless you’re a wealthy corporate shareholder who profits from all the Horatio Alger horseshit the Republicans have propelled upon their flock. Most jobs today offer a low hourly wage WITH NO, zero, zip, zilch , nada BENEFITS AT ALL. With no work no pay and no safety net, the Poor/Work Houses will return. thinkingblue
A poorhouse or workhouse was a government-run facility in the past for the support and housing of dependent or needy persons, typically run by a local government entity such as a county or municipality.
The term is commonly applied to such a facility that housed the destitute elderly; institutions of this nature were widespread in the United States prior to the adoption of the Social Security program in the 1930s. Facilities housing indigents who are not elderly are typically referred to as homeless shelters, or simply "shelters," in current usage.
Often the poorhouse was situated on the grounds of a poor farm on which able-bodied residents were required to work; such farms were common in the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries; it could even be part of the same economic complex as a prison farm and other penal or charitable public institutions.
PS: Now we know what the Republicans mean when they shout TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK… to the days of the Poor House. Happy Labor Day!
WHAT WERE POORHOUSES?
the Poorhouse Story
(often also called Poor Farms -- and several similar terms --
or referred to with the older term -- Almshouses)

Poorhouses were tax-supported residential institutions to which people were required to go if they could not support themselves. They were started as a method of providing a less expensive (to the taxpayers) alternative to what we would now days call "welfare" - what was called "outdoor relief" in those days. People requested help from the community Overseer of the Poor ( sometimes also called a Poor Master) - an elected town official. If the need was great or likely to be long-term, they were sent to the poorhouse instead of being given relief while they continued to live independently. Sometimes they were sent there even if they had not requested help from the Overseer of the Poor. That was usually done when they were found guilty of begging in public, etc.

[One misconception should be cleared up here; they were not technically "debtors' prisons." Someone could owe a great deal of money, but if they could still provide themselves with the necessities for remaining independent they might avoid the poorhouse.]

BEFORE POORHOUSES
the Poorhouse Story

Prior to the establishment of poorhouses the problem of what to do with paupers in a community was dealt with in one of three ways:

Outdoor Relief provided through an Overseer of the Poor: When people fell upon hard times and members of their family, friends or members of their church congregations could not provide enough assistance to tide them over, they made application to an elected local official called the Overseer of the Poor. Within a budget of tax money, he might provide them with food, fuel, clothing, or even permission to get medical treatment to be paid out of tax funds.

In England, Wales and Ireland (but not in Scotland) a poorhouse was more commonly known as a workhouse. In early Victorian times (see Poor Law), poverty was seen as a dishonorable state caused by a lack of the moral virtue of industriousness (or industry as it was called). As was depicted by Charles Dickens, a workhouse could resemble a reformatory and house children, either with families or alone, or a penal labor regime to give the poor work at manual labor and subject them to physical punishment. As the 19th century progressed, conditions improved.
