Petition To Pres Obama. God Bless America, My Foot!

This really gets my goat! thinkingblue

HEALTHCARE PETITION TO OBAMA
---------------
Protect Our Children - Every One Deserves Healthcare
Target: President ObamaSponsored by: Care2Every 39 seconds, a child in the United Sates is born uninsured. Nine million children have no health insurance - that's one in nine. In this economic recession, more and more parents are sacrificing their children's health care in order to get by.

Hi,I just signed the petition "Protect Our Children - Every One Deserves Healthcare". I'm asking you to sign this petition to help us reach our goal of 10,000 signatures. I care deeply about this cause, and I hope you will support our efforts. Petition to Barack Obama, here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/966283359
Here is my "two cents":

"I have been signing petitions such as this one for healthcare reform, for years. Still the problem exists. What I would like to know is... Why? Why does such shameful neglect and uncaring occur in a country like ours? Why are so many of our people left to suffer?

We are no longer a country “of the people, by the people” we are a country of “the big business/big lobbies, by the big business/big lobbies”. They are the true owners of this land and greed will continue to step on and over those who outnumber the greedy few at the top, millions of times over. Even when they flagrantly and arrogantly fail, they succeed and go on conducting their greed in the same manner.

God bless America, MY FOOT!" thinkingblue

Are You A liberal? Take the truth test.

Are you a Liberal? (click here to) Take The Test

I took the test and now, I, (aka thinkingblue), without a doubt can claim that I am a proud liberal (As if I really needed to take a test to show me the way I THINK...)

I've been what the political philosophers refer to as a "Liberal" for all my political life. I joined (or fell into) this belief system because my parents were liberals. But they rarely talked of their beliefs except on voting day and since my father was only 45 years of age when he died, I can only remember one occasion of them going off to the polls to vote for Adley Stevenson.

After my dad's death, my mother never voted again. She was not financially responsible and when you live off Social Security alone, you'd better possess some liable brain cells with the few bucks a month you receive or you will starve. And so food absence, for my 4 brothers and me, on many occasions, became the norm. I believe that is what attracted me to Liberalism, (Experiencing suffering in my own home because of budgeting ignorance).

My
mother's other sin, (besides financial irresponsibility) was processing a false pride. She went to a government food distribution facility to collect such bulk staples as cheese, peanut butter and powdered milk, once or twice but found the experience quite humiliating and never went back... So hunger rejoined our family.

You don't ask to be born nor do you have a choice as to what type of guardian/parent you will receive. Little children who have to live in abject poverty because they were conceived by unenlightened, uninformed and yes, ignorant parents (who were raised possibly by the same) are one of the main reasons for Liberalism. The very old and the very young are the vulnerable ones in any society. They have little or no tools for survival. And if government can't help them, most will fall prey to the very dark side of life. Pain and despair for these unfortunates are a way of life.

There are people who care about their fellow human beings but they usually can do little to lift those who have fallen between the cracks out of their dilemma. The weakest of any culture need legal safety nets. These nets provide mainstays not only for those in need but also for the rest of the members of a society, because when people do not have to be bothered by the neediest amongst them, all will be able to live a better humane life. Like it are not, WE ARE ALL A PART OF A LARGER WHOLE. thinkingblue

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.

Your
ECONOMIC issues Score is 10%.

According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is...

LIBERAL

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in
personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the

economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business.
Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil
liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and
tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Other Political Philosophies
Right (Conservative)

Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support
laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose
bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.

Libertarian

Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic
matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government
bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse
lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

Centrist

Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the
economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Statist (Big Government)

Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the economy and
individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether economic
liberty and individual freedom are practical options in today's
world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support high taxes
and centralized planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles,
and question the importance of civil liberties.

The Tea Parties: We’ve Seen It All Before

As I wandered through the crowd at the Denver Tea Party protest last week, I was struck by just how paper-thin is the movement’s opposition to government
power.

The Tea Party movement is clearly a "Conservative" movement in its membership and core philosophy, and therefore it is not surprising that many of the very same people who now loudly claim to oppose government spending and taxation, were the very same people who, for the last eight years, had been cheerleaders for one of the most profligate administrations in American history.

And yet, here they were at the Tea Party, pretending to be principled opponents of government power. MORE HERE: http://www.lewrockwell.com/mcmaken/mcmaken129.html

IS THERE A CHILD KILLER IN YOUR HOME?

IS THERE A CHILD KILLER IN YOUR HOME?

A tragic tale of ignorance:

My local newspaper had a headline stating "4-year-old dies in freak
accident"... The child was fatally injured by a FLAT SCREEN
TV, through no fault of anyone except the consumer product safety
com. and Big Business, who push these dangerous products. I’ve
seen these latest consumer items in stores, sitting atop some
dresser or TV stand, looking so mightily modern with their teeny
tiny base. My (indoctrinated) consumer interest, seemed only
focused on the size of the screen, not the lack of size of the
base. It's unfathomable to me now, (especially after reading a
child had died) that I didn’t realize how top-heavy these
thingamajigs were. This is a very sad tale of how one family had
to suffer from a lack of knowledge about physics. I am writing
this today in hope that maybe, just one consumer (especially,
with a small child) will think before they plop their hard earned
cash down so they can cart one of these potential killers off to
their home.

UPDATED:
4-year-old dies in freak accident

http://www.suwanneedemocrat.com/archivesearch/local_story_160143026.html

By Jeff Waters, Democrat Reporter

A four-year-old Branford girl died Sunday from injuries
she sustained when a television fell on her at her home
in Branford Saturday, according to Chief Deputy Ron
Colvin of the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office.

Olivia Grace Leatherman died at Shands UF, authorities said.

Circumstances of the incident are unclear.

"It was a tragic, tragic accident," said Chief
Deputy Ron Colvin of the Suwannee County Sheriff's
Office. "I feel for the entire family."

Olivia's grandfather Kenneth Leatherman wanted to warn folks of the dangers TVs can create.

"If we can do that and reach out and save just maybe
one child," said Leatherman. "I want to make
sure people understand that regardless of flat screen,
wall mounted or sitting on a stand, they need to be secured properly."

Nicknamed "princess" and "pumpkin,"
Olivia, a pre-school student, loved to work in the yard
with her father. Her grandfather said her laugh was
"absolutely contagious." She loved to dance
anytime she heard music.

Olivia and her grandfather made up a game called sock
monster, he said. Olivia would sit in a chair with her
grandmother, whom she called maw-maw, while her
grandfather would come around the corner and steal her
socks off her feet and run into his office. Olivia would
run in, grab the socks, then quickly run back to her
grandmother, all the while laughing.

Kenneth Leatherman said his granddaughter loved visiting
the local library.

"She'd go down there and make me sit at the table
while she went down the aisles," said Leatherman.
"She was a typical four year old. She was learning
her numbers and able to read and recognize most the
alphabet."

Another sad story below:

Falling flat-screen TVs a growing threat for kids

Samara Brinkley dozed off just for a moment as she was watching cartoons on TV with her
4-year-old daughter.

Then “I heard the boom, and I woke up and I [saw] my
child laying on the floor, and I [saw] a pool of blood
coming out in the back of her head,” said Brinkley, 26, of Jacksonville, Fla.

Dymounique Wilson, one of Brinkley’s two daughters,
died last Wednesday when the family’s 27-inch television fell over on her.

Nearly 17,000 children were rushed to emergency rooms in
2007, the last year for which complete figures were
available, after heavy or unstable furniture fell over on
them, a new study reported this month. The study,
published in the journal Clinical Pediatrics by
researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in
Columbus, Ohio, found that the such injuries had risen 41 percent since 1990.

The increase correlated with the popularity of
ever-bigger flat-panel televisions that Americans have
brought into their homes in that time, along with the
entertainment centers and narrow, less-stable stands to
hold them. Injuries from televisions alone accounted for
nearly half of all injuries related to falling furniture during the study period — 47 percent.

Three-quarters of the victims of falling furniture are
younger than 6 years old, and children that age
“simply don’t recognize the danger of climbing
on furniture,” said Gary Smith, director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

That makes it imperative that parents take steps to
secure flat-panel TVs, which have narrow centers of
gravity, and other top-heavy pieces, said Yvonne
Holguin-Duran, a child safety specialist with University
Health System in San Antonio, Texas.

“If we just take one glance around our house,
[parents can] see what safety dangers on their level
these children can get into,” Holguin-Duran said.

Tougher voluntary rules have little impact

Like many other childhood bumps and bruises, most of the
injuries related to falling furniture were minor. But 3
percent of the 264,200 children whose cases were reviewed
from 1990 to 2007 were injured seriously enough to
require hospital admission — most of them for head
and neck injuries — and about 300 of them died.

The report “demonstrates the inadequacy of current
prevention strategies and underscores the need for
increased prevention efforts,” Smith said.

The number of accidents has risen even as regulators have
paid more attention to the problem since 2004, after ASTM
International (formerly the American Society for Testing
and Materials) published revised voluntary manufacturing
standards to reduce the likelihood that big furniture
pieces could tip over.

There is only so far current technology can go to make a
modern television stable, however, researchers at the
University of Pennsylvania pointed out in a 2006 study of
the hazards of modern TVs.

Americans have fallen in love with flat-panel displays,
which often pack as much as a hundred pounds of circuitry
and glass into a panel only a few inches thick. They are
top-heavy and are expected to balance, more or less
precariously, on lightweight stands or to hang from wall
brackets that are often inexpertly installed by home do-it-yourselfers.

By contrast, older cathode ray tube sets were big and
blocky. While they, too, were, relatively unstable, with
most of their weight at the front, they did incorporate a
broader base with a lower center of gravity, which
allowed them to rest more stably on the floor or on a
tabletop.

And homeowners eager to get to watching their new sets
frequently ignore instructions for how to secure their consoles.

“In our study population, none of the televisions or
the furniture that they were placed on was secured,” the Penn researchers said.

‘Keep an eye on your child’

In 2005, Congress took a stab at the problem. Rep.
Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., introduced legislation that
would have required the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission to set more rigorous standards for furniture
that “poses a substantial risk of tipping” or
that includes a glass surface or pane.

That measure died in committee. It again died in
committee after Schwartz tried a second time in late 2007.

Until laws are strengthened to mandate safety straps and
anchor mechanisms, parents are largely on their own in
making sure their homes are safe, Smith said.
Fortunately, he said, “following a few simple
prevention steps” dramatically reduces the
likelihood of injury:

Samara Brinkley will always regret nodding off for that
one moment. Police theorize that Dymounique was trying to
retrieve her Dora the Explorer book from atop the TV when
it tipped off its stand last week.

“I want every parent out there please be careful,” Brinkley said. “Keep an eye on your
child, because you never know what might happen if you turn your back for a quick second.”

Tony Porter of Greensburg, Ind., didn’t even have that chance.

His 2-year-old daughter, Vanessa, was at day care when a
television set that wasn’t bolted down fell on her
last August, breaking her cheeks, nose, jaw, palate and
eye sockets. Vanessa was hospitalized in intensive care
and subsequently underwent several operations to repair her face.

“Nobody should have to go through this,” Tony Porter said. “No child of that age — of any age
— should have to go through this.”

Flatscreen TV’s: The new silent child killer?

With falling prices and the ever increasing demand for
Hi-Def content coupled with the desire for smaller less
intrusive electronics, flat screen TV’s such as
Plasma and LCD’s have quickly begun replacing
traditional as-big-as-a-house tube/projection golden
oldies. Many would think the real danger from having
children and flat screens would be from the kids knocking
the TV’s over resulting in a very unhappy papa and
the child getting to go on a nice extended camping trip
in their bedroom. But did you ever consider that flat
screen TV’s could in fact be a dangerous child
slayer lying in wait?

Take for example the store of 26 year old Samara Brinkley
of Jacksonville, Fla as she details the horrific account
of the day she fell asleep watching cartoons on the couch
with her 4-year old daughter. Her nap however was short
lived as it came to an abrubt and tragic end by a loud
“boom”. She awoke to the tragic sight of her
daughter laying in a pool of blood after the families
27-inch TV fell over onto the child and ended up killing her.

Stories and events like this aren’t uncommon
however as in 2007, over 17,000 kids were rushed to the
emergancy room for simliar accidents. Naturally as a TV
gets bigger, the stand does as well if you choose to have
it free standing. However, the bases aren’t nearly
big or sturdy enough to support the ever growing size and
weight of the top heavy sets meaning they are more prone
to tipping. That’s why it is always smarter to
attach your flatscreen to the wall where at least it is
out of reach of most younger children who don’t
understand the risks associated with big heavy objects
and gravity. However, make sure that when mounting to a
wall you do it correctly, (read: actually hit studs). If
you you’re a stickler or anal about holes in the
wall and other neat freak crap, they sell bondo and paint
to consumers for a reason – use it!

Of course, the news of such incidents will prompt
consumer outrage and “government action” where
none is needed and is simply stupid to begin with. People
like big TV’s. We purchase them even with children.
For instance, if I install my TV in the wall and it falls
off, barring any structural problems with the TV or stand
itself, I myself am liable and fully responsible for the
failing of the wall mount. Not a manufacturer of the TV
or stand. That is the increasing problem with the good
‘ol U S of A is that we are trying to find more and
more ways to fault other people instead of looking in the mirror.

Following the over reaction and public outrage that
usuall ensues such stories as the one above means you
will find all sorts of “helpful tips and
guides” on how to be safer. Really you can just call
these for what they are: “Anti-stupid guides”.
Why? Because everything you will ever see from a guide
published after a revealing of a “major
problem” such as flat screen TV’s tipping over
on children, you will notice is nothing but pure common sense. Things like:

placing TV sets low on the ground and on the back of a stand

actually parenting (Gasp) and teaching kids not to play
around or place toys on TV’s or TV stands

buying furniture with wide legs or bases and the most important: always keep an eye on kids and what they’re doing

You see, it’s hardly rocket science. It is just
plain common sense. Just use your head people. The store
mentioned above was by no means the mothers or fathers
fault. It was tragedy pure and simple. Hopefully these
more publicized incidents will teach everyone to use
their heads a little more.

Falling Flat Screen TV Injuries and Deaths On The Rise Among Children

By Sean Fallon on May 13, 2009 at 8:20 AM

A new study reported this month revealed that 17,000
children were admitted to emergency rooms in 2007 for
injuries related to falling furniture. Of those
incidents, nearly half involved falling TVs.

Apparently, the 41% rise in injuries/deaths since 1990
correlate with the increasing popularity of flat screen
tvs and the

narrow stands that often support them. CNBC cites a
mother named Samara Brinkley as an example. Last week her
4-year old daughter was killed when the family’s
27-inch television fell on her. Only a fraction of the
incidents reported each year end up being fatal, but it
goes without saying that if you have children, flat panel
TV’s with narrow centres of gravity should be
secured. Better yet, wall mount them—it usually
looks better anyway.

A Mother's Shame Of Not Having Health Insurance.

A Doctor's Letter to Senator Baucus
Why We Need a Single-Payer Health Care System
By ANA M. MALINOW, MD

When I read the (above) letter, written by a pediatrician to Senator Baucus, I thought about how so many people of low income are ashamed that they appear to those educated and well-off as poor and indigent. The shame should fall on this country itself. How cold a government who could care less if all its citizens do not have access to good affordable health care? I can't believe I have lived this long and the debate is still going on. Affordable health care for all should be the number one issue on the table of our political leaders. Why it's not, is the true shame of this country. If we go another generation without health care for all, we don't deserve to speak out against any other country’s lack of human rights. I hope we all will start crying out..."I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!"

And to President Barack Obama, STOP LISTENING TO THE INSURANCE LOBBIES AND HEAR OUR CRIES! thinkingblue
A Doctor's Letter to Senator Baucus
Why We Need a Single-Payer Health Care System

By ANA M. MALINOW, MD

Honorable Senator Baucus:

Last week, in the public clinic where I work, I treated a 6-year-old girl who had visited the emergency room for cellulitis, an infection of the skin, over her hand. Usually a relatively minor condition that is easily treated with a 10-day course of antibiotics, cellulitis can sometimes cause severe consequences, including life-threatening sepsis, if not treated promptly.

The reason this patient was notable was because she was uninsured and had been sent home with a prescription that her mother tried to fill but was unable to afford. How much did the antibiotic suspension cost? $500.

When I saw her three days after her ER visit, her hand was swollen twice the normal size, purple, tender and warm to the touch, with a red streak(signifying an extension of the infection from the skin to the bloodstream) up to her elbow. I took one look at her and quickly made the decision to admit her for IV antibiotics, including a consultation with pediatric surgery to ensure that the infection had not spread between the deep layers of her skin.

What struck me most about this visit, other than the child's deformed hand, was the mother's shame at not being able to afford her child's medication. I assured her that I did not blame her, that our health care system was unconscionable, and that we needed a health care system where everyone was included and everyone paid according to his or her ability to pay. She agreed.

I'm not surprised she agreed. From 1943 to today, opinion polls consistently show that a stable majority of Americans favor a government role in the financing of health care. In the lead-up to President Truman's national health care proposal, 82 percent of Americans agreed that something needed to be done to make health bills easier to afford.

Today, 65 percent of Americans, including 59 percent of U.S. physicians, support a tax-financed national health insurance plan. Why wouldn't my patient's mother support national health care?

What she probably doesn't know is how much she already pays for the health care her child does not get, or gets late. Her uninsured family pays an extra 10 percent out of its paycheck in taxes to pay for our health care system. Her daughter's hospitalization will be covered by emergency Medicaid, for which she pays through her sales taxes, income taxes, property taxes and other hidden taxes. She will still have many out-of-pocket costs, of course.

I was struck by your remarks this week during the Senate Finance Commitee hearings as physicians were carted away. "We need more police." No, Mr. Senator, we need true health care reform.

Referring to the difference between Washington insiders and most polls over the stimulus package, President Obama's advisor, David Axelrod said, "This town talks to itself and whips itself into a frenzy with its own theories that are completely at odds with what the rest of America is thinking." The moral, he said, is "not just that Washington is too insular but that the American people are a lot smarter than people in Washington think."

I agree. As I talk about a single-payer national health program across Texas (yes, Texas!) and other states, I am repeatedly amazed by the ability of Americans to understand the complex issues of health reform if it is adequately explained to them. People quickly understand that a sustainable solution will come only when we contain costs and eliminate fragmentation.

The more I listen, the more I hear that all Americans want a health care system that is affordable, accountable, accessible, comprehensive, universal and just - not another Band-Aid that will condemn thousands of us to unnecessary pain, suffering, bankruptcy and death. Listen for yourself, and you will hear Americans clamoring for true health care reform.

By Washington standards, single payer is politically unfeasible. But step outside the beltway and you will be surprised by the genuine support that exists for a publicly funded, privately delivered, expanded and improved Medicare for all.

This mother should not be made to feel ashamed. Nor should her child be relegated to suffer like a Third World beggar. Your compromise plan that keeps the private, for-profit insurance industry in the game will perpetuate the shame and the begging. Already, there is a grassroots movement building against private health insurance and for single payer. It will reach Washington, whether Washington is ready or not.

Sincerely yours,
Ana M. Malinow, MD

Right-wing Talk Show’s Ideology of Hate Strikes Again

Play About Anne Frank, Emmett Till Cancelled After Museum Shooting

Right-wing Talk Show’s Ideology of Hate Strikes Again

Are hate mongers keeping a tally of the murders they help create with their hate endorsements? O'Reilly practically ordered Dr Tiller to be assassinated. The airwaves, right wing nuts use free speech as a tool to promote their morally revolting ideology of hate. I’ll bet if it were up to them, they would order anyone who doesn't feel the same kind of animosity they feel towards people deemed unfit, to be taken out i.e. Dr. Tiller.

When I heard that the former U.S. Def. Sec. Wm. Cohen's wife had written a play about an imaginary conversation between 2 teenage victims of HATE, Anne Frank and Emmett Till, I lost it. This should be theater for everyone. Emmett Till: Born: 7/25/41, Chicago, Ill. – beaten and lynched: Aug., 1955 because he was black and dared to whistle, flirtatiously at a white woman. Anne Frank - born 6/12/29 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany who hid for over 2 years from govt. killers in Nazi Germany only to be discovered and hauled off to die March 1945, in a concentration camp.

Langhart Cohen says her play at the museum has been cancelled until further notice. The next showing will be Friday June 12th at George Washington University. thinkingblue

Play About Anne Frank, Emmett Till Cancelled After Museum Shooting

WASHINGTON - Former U.S. Senator and Defense Secretary William
Cohen was inside the Holocaust Memorial Museum during Wednesday's
shootout and has unique insight into the hatred behind the
afternoon's gunfire.

Cohen told ABC 7/NewsChannel 8's Jay Korff he was only about 30
to 40 feet from the gunman when shots rang out. He was there
preparing for his wife's play which was scheduled to premier
Wednesday night at the museum.

In the horrifying moments when gunfire erupted inside the
Holocaust Memorial Museum, Cohen was only steps away from the
armed suspect, 88-year-old James Von Brunn.

"I heard about four or five shots ring out in very quick
succession and I knew they were gunshots and we ducked,' said
Cohen.

Cohen hit the ground and fled to safety. His wife, Janet Langhart
Cohen, was en route to the museum at the time of the shooting.

"And that place, that beautiful place the museum is
desecrated now with this sad murder of this young security
officer whom I would see every day that I would come in for
rehearsals," said Langhart Cohen.

Langhart Cohen says she wrote "Anne and Emmett" to
expose and hopefully eradicate hatred. The play is a narrative
about an imaginary conversation between teenagers Anne Frank and Emmett Till.

Frank died during the Holocaust while Till was lynched for flirting with a white woman.

The alleged gunman wrote extensively about his hatred of Jews and blacks. The irony of the moment is not lost on the Cohens.

"And today was a signal, a sign that we have more action coming. We have to do more," said Langhart Cohen.

William Cohen, whose father was Jewish, co-chaired the Genocide
Prevention Task Force. Langhart Cohen, an African-American, has
written extensively about racism.

Their life's work couldn't be further from the rantings of a
racist. Yet on this day, their paths crossed in a place built to
never forget the unforgivable sin of indifference.

"That element is still out there and what we have to do in
society is say we can't tolerate that. When we see sickness like
that we have to shine a light on it and expose it," said
Cohen.

Langhart Cohen says her play at the museum has been cancelled
until further notice. The next showing will be Friday night at
George Washington University.

Reforming Health Care, WHAT A JOKE!

Reforming Health Care – WHAT A JOKE!

It's beyond disgusting to think the greedy Health Ins. Ind. & Big Pharma (lobbies) will stab us in the back again by not allowing low income workers access to health ins.. I wonder how many families will suffer because of this stranglehold. Why aren’t there statistics out there? When these cruel SOB's can call the shots as to who will not suffer (those with high incomes) and who will agonize because they will be turned away from health providers simply because they lack the funds, is deplorable for a country like ours! I was going to keep pounding my keyboard, spreading the plight for single payer ins. around, signing as many petitions as I could find to get it back on the table. But now I’m so distressed by the power of health insurance lobbies; it appears futile, once again GREED WINS! “Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it. It is a trait that is not known to the higher animale." – Mark Twain THINKINGBLUE

_________

Reforming Health Insurance Reform

It is interesting watching the debate about health care

reform, especially because it is hard to tell who is actually
trying to reform the US health care system, and who is just
looking out for their own interests:

  • One of the most ironic things is how the government and the media (even including those people who are leading the charge for health insurance reform) are conspiring to eliminate any mention of a single payer insurance system. This, despite the fact that a strong majority of Americans favor single payer, and it is the most common system in other first world nations. The main reason they give for this (when they are asked at all) is that it is just not “politically possible”. Which to me means “the insurance companies are just too powerful and won’t allow it”. Indeed, the insurance industry ranks second in money spent on lobbying (the number one spot is held by the pharmaceutical and health products industry). Two other health related industries — hospitals, and health professionals — are on the list of top twenty lobbyists. Together, those four health-related industries spent a combined $4.2 billion over the last ten years on lobbying alone.

  • Second, even though the Republican Party has been working
overtime lately to take obstructionism to a new level,
they have been curiously silent about health care reform,
and sometimes even supportive. A new light was shed on
this with the publication of a set of talking points from Republican consultant Frank Luntz
on health reform, which seem to urge Republicans to
co-opt the language of health reform in order to sabotage
any actual or meaningful reform. In other words, Luntz
says that Republicans should say they are for
health reform, but qualify that by using feel-good
phrases like “we need a uniquely American approach”.

  • Likewise, reading the writing on the wall, the health
insurance industry is promising to reform itself
    .
This is the same thing it did in 1977 to prevent Carter
from imposing reforms on the industry. And they did it
again as part of the defeat of health reform during the
Clinton administration. Look how well those reforms
worked. The industry hopes that it can kill
any choice of public insurance, so they can
    retain their stranglehold.

  • But the most bizarre thing is that while the Republican
Party itself has been relatively silent, other groups are
springing up to fight health reform. For example, the
group Conservatives for Patients’ Rights is launching a $20 million
    campaign
to kill Obama’s efforts at health
reform. Who are these people? Well, the group that is
coordinating their campaign is PRC Public Relations
    — the same group that Swiftboated John Kerry back in
2004. And the leader of the Conservatives for
Patients’ Rights is Rick Scott, the former CEO of the largest hospital chain
in America, who was forced to resign after his company
pled guilty to the largest health care fraud case in US history.
Ironically, even though the Conservatives for
Patients’ Rights are against any public insurance
plan, Scott’s company made their money by falsifying
their Medicare claims. Stunningly, Scott is using $5
million of his own money — dollars he earned by
cheating Medicare, which is government insurance —
    to fight against government insurance.

THE FOMENTING OF HATE (LEGALLY)!

It is difficult for me to express the ill feelings I harbor towards Bill O'Reilly because the man displays psychopathic, personality disorder, tendencies and maybe, should be pitied not hated. But although he, by any account, appears stark raving mad, I believe his behavior comes about through greed. He will do anything to keep the bucks flowing through his enormous bank account and that more than lunacy is his motivation. That being said, the ones we, who possess reasonable minds, should direct our outrage at, are the people (Rupert Murdoch and his henchmen) at Fox News who allow and encourage the hate mongering that comes out of their programming. Hate mongering that leads to the death of innocent people. We who live in America, have all kinds of belief systems and because we live in a somewhat free democracy, we are, or should be allowed those beliefs as long as we don't try to force others to abide by our particular rules and dogma. But that is not what is happening; the O'Reillys and Limbaughs are fomenting and stirring up hatred towards anyone who does not think or believe like they supposedly do. And if you don't believe like them, then you will be punished. I enjoy freedom of speech but there really is something wrong with our laws when one single nut, who has unlimited access to the airwaves can promote "lynchings" of sort. (They know what they are doing and are joyful when their hate mongering produces murder.) I am deeply saddened to think there is no way we can put a stop to this. Because of this madness, I believe, there will be more killings. Maybe there's a magic number that when reached, a voice of reason will step forward and say “ENOUGH!”. I ponder that number, is it 10, 15, 200 or a 1000. A thousand doctors, lawyers or anyone who respects the law, murdered before “we the people” who live in this society can and will say ENOUGH! Please voice your opposition to the senseless hate mongering on our airwaves by signing and commenting on a petition, at this link: http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/tiller/?r=3745&id=4287-1384826-a.By_Tx

Keith Olbermann: 'FOX News Incited Dr. Tiller's Murder'

Subject: Two things you can do about the murder of Dr. George Tiller

Dear Friend,

"Tiller the Baby Killer."

That's how FOX News host Bill O'Reilly referred to Dr. George Tiller who was murdered in cold blood Sunday while he attended church.

Tiller's crime? He provided healthcare to women. Including abortion.

What happened Sunday was devastating. And it might not have happened if it wasn't for the hate mongering of Bill O'Reilly and others.

There are two things you can do.

1.Sign our petition to Bill O'Reilly. Ask him to take responsibility for creating an atmosphere in which the assassination of Dr. George Tiller comes as no surprise. And tell him to stop spreading hateful rhetoric which encourages violence against doctors who provide reproductive healthcare for women: http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/tiller/?r_by=4287-1384826-a.By_Tx&rc=paste

2.Make a donation to Medical Students for Choice in honor of Dr. George Tiller. We must lift up a new generation of doctors who are willing and able to provide reproductive healthcare to women.

Snowball The Dancing Cockatoo (Scary)

This cockatoo is something else. He dances to the rhythm of the beat like any well coordinated human being with the talent of dance. Watching this bird get down makes you wonder what is going on in that tiny little brain of his. There definitely is someone home. Scientist are baffled by this... see more at this site: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103629651&sc=emaf
