Did you ever pick up a newspaper and wished you hadn't? Well that's what happened to me this morning. It wasn't a real time Newspaper but in today's world, it's more like a Newsdigi (still I wished I hadn't clicked).

First it was a, Health Care {NO} Reform article noting the Health Care and Insurance Industry had won the long drawn out debate on REFORM...

Then gloom and doom news from Afghanistan. It's enough to make you put on a pair of rose colored glasses or stick your head in the sand. But alas, I can't do that, because then I would become part of the (Sarah Palin - Michele Bachmann et al ) crazy lunatic fringe mob on the right! thinkingblue

WASHINGTON – What's all the fuss about? After all
the noise over Democrats' push for a government insurance plan to
compete with private carriers, coverage numbers are finally in: Two percent.

That's the estimated share of Americans younger than
65 who'd sign up for the public option plan under the health care
bill that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is steering toward House approval.

The underwhelming statistic is raising questions about
whether the government plan will be the iron-fisted competitor
that private insurers warn will shut them down or a niche
operator that becomes a haven for patients with health insurance horror stories.

Some experts are wondering if lawmakers have wasted
too much time arguing about the public plan, giving short shrift
to basics such as ensuring that new coverage will be affordable.

"The public option is a significant issue, but
its place in the debate is completely out of proportion to its
actual importance to consumers," said Drew Altman, president
of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. "It has sucked
all the oxygen out of the room and diverted attention from
bread-and-butter consumer issues, such as affordable coverage and comprehensive benefits."

The Democratic health care bills would
extend coverage to the uninsured by providing government help
with premiums and prohibiting insurers from excluding people in
poor health or charging them more. But to keep from piling more
on the federal deficit, most of the uninsured will have to wait
until 2013 for help. Even then, many will have to pay a
significant share of their own health care costs....If Congress
passes a public plan that's not much of a sensation, Democrats
might have reason to regret all the time and energy they invested... MORE

Afghan challenger drops out of runoff election - While President Obama
has to make one of the hardest decisions of anyone's lifetime,
determining, whether or not to continue a deplorable war by
sending in more fodder or withdrawing and allowing a sovereign
state to solve its own problems. Afghanistan leaders continue to
play games and commit high crimes and misdemeanors.

Did we really believe that when George W. Bush and his sidekick Dick (the dick) Cheney left office we would not have to stomach them any longer?
It seems the mess they made will be in our faces for a long time
to come. They plotted and planned, thinking they could mold parts
of our world into something more palatable to them, while
forgetting that what they were trying to shape involved human
beings (the rest is sorry ass history). STUPIDITY, to the highest

Afghan challenger drops out of runoff election

KABUL – President Hamid Karzai's
challenger withdrew Sunday from next weekend's runoff election,
effectively handing the incumbent a victory but raising doubts
about the credibility of the government at a time when the U.S.
is anxious for an effective partner in the war against the Taliban.

Former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah said he made his
decision after Karzai turned down his demands for changes in the
Independent Election Commission and other measures that he said
would prevent massive fraud, which marred the first round balloting Aug. 20.

Abdullah stopped short of calling for an electoral boycott and
urged his followers "not to go to the streets, not to demonstrate."

Azizullah Lodin, the head of the Karzai-appointed commission,
said he would have to confer with constitutional lawyers before
deciding later Sunday whether the runoff would proceed without Abdullah.

A clouded electoral picture further complicates the Obama
administration's efforts to decide whether to send tens of
thousands more troops to Afghanistan to battle the Taliban and
its al-Qaida allies. MORE
