National Shame Finally Spotlighted

National Shame Finally Spotlighted
I feel ecstatic that this is finally happening but it also brings forth a feeling of sadness because it exposes the national bigotry our government had even during war. In addition, why did it take so long to rectify such a perverse overlook from leaders who send kids into battle? You might also wonder why, it takes an African American president to correct the intolerant mindset of generations past. Could it be, because he himself was/is a victim of racism that persists to this day, especially within the GOP (and its Tea Party offshoot)!thinkingblue

Republicans Lie to Stop A Minimum Wage Increase!

Republicans Lie to Stop A Minimum Wage Increase!
What is wrong with these people?
Why do they want to keep poor people poor?
What advantage is it to them to stop the buying power of lower income workers?
Are they just selfish and hateful or do they truly believe that the rich should be the only class who deserves more buying power? thinkingblue
Congressional Democrats are pushing a bill that would gradually raise the
federal minimum to $10.10/hour from $7.25 and index it to the Consumer Price
Index. But the measure faces little chance of passing the Republican-led House,
where many members argue that a higher minimum wage would lead businesses
to cut jobs.

Meanwhile, states and cities are taking up the issue. On Tuesday, the Washington,
D.C. City Council voted to raise the capital city’s minimum wage to $11.50/hour
from $8.25 by 2016. Last month, New Jerseyans voted to raise their state’s
minimum wage to $8.25/hour and index future increases to inflation.
Massachusetts’ state Senate voted last month to raise its hourly minimum wage to
$11.00 from $8.00.

Though raising the minimum wage is broadly popular, there are clear partisan
differences. Back in February, a Pew Research Center survey found that 71% of
people favored an increase in the federal minimum to $9.00/hour from $7.25. But
while large majorities of Democrats (87%) and independents (68%) said they
favored such an increase, Republicans were split.

Here are five more facts about the minimum wage and the people who earn it:

1 Adjusted for inflation, the federal minimum wage peaked in 1968 at $8.56 (in
2012 dollars). Since it was last raised in 2009, to the current $7.25/hour, the
federal minimum has lost about 5.8% of its purchasing power to inflation.

2 Just over half (50.6%) of the 3.55 million U.S. workers who were at or below
the federal minimum last year are ages 16 to 24; an additional 20.3% are ages 25
to 34 (both shares have stayed more or less constant over the past decade). That
3.55 million represents about 2.8% of all wage and salary workers.

3 Nineteen states (plus D.C.) have set their own, higher minimums, ranging from
$7.35 in Missouri to $9.19 in Washington State. (Some cities and counties have
gone even higher — San Francisco’s minimum wage, for example, is set to rise
19 cents to $10.74 next month.) Those states collectively include 45% of the
nation’s working-age (16 and over), meaning the federal demographic data don’t
capture a significant share of the nation’s lowest-paid workers. Fortunately, there
are other approaches.

4 Nearly 21.3 million U.S. workers (or 16.4% of the workforce) would be
directly affected by raising the minimum wage to $10.10 by July 2015, as the
Senate bill referred to above seeks to do, according to analysis of microdata
from the Current Population Survey by the Economic Policy Institute (a labor-
backed research group that supports raising the minimum wage). 85.5% of those
workers, according to EPI’s analysis, are 20 or older; 57.3% are female; and
39.4% are black or Hispanic (versus 26.8% of the workforce as a whole).

5 While not strictly minimum-wage workers, almost 23.2 million Americans
(17.8% of all wage and salary workers) worked in the nation’s lowest-paid
occupations as of last year, according to Pew Research Center analysis of
occupational employment and wage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Those occupations, defined as paying $10.15/hour ($21,112/year) or less, were
largely in a few categories: retail salespeople (4.3 million), cashiers (3.3
million), food preparers/servers, including fast-food workers (2.9 million) and
waitstaff (2.3 million).

Bible Belt Shame

I just cannot for the life of me, understand the religious mind. They talk about the sanctity of human life, yet they scorn everything about being human and being alive. They seem to have a desire to fear life even when they are not threatened. In addition, they judge other people’s actions (good or bad) to the extent of calling them inhuman (for acting human). None of this makes any sense; especially since religion is, suppose to teach tolerance and be a guide, we all can follow in order to get along! Thus, my question is… why do certain people need to live their lives in a senseless quandary when they do not have to? It’s beyond reason.

2 Murderers Not Found Guilty Of Murder

BREAKING NEWS, brought to you by the GOP, the NRA, ALEC and Angela Corey, Republican prosecutor (in) the Rick Scott administration. thethinkingblue

Michael Dunn, 47, has been found guilty of 3 counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of hurling a deadly missile. A mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of 17-year old Jordan Davis.
The jury deliberated for four days and remained deadlocked on the 1st-degree murder charge and lesser charges, including second degree murder, manslaughter, justifiable homicide, or excusable homicide.
In essence, Dunn was found guilty of everything but murdering Jordan Davis.
As previously reported by NewsOne, Dunn, 47, gunned down Davis at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida on November 23rd, 2012. Dunn claims that he felt threatened by the teen — who was sitting inside of an SUV with friends — and loud music coming from the vehicle, so he sprayed the vehicle with nine bullets before driving away, leaving Davis to die in a friend’s arms.
None of the teens had weapons.
A LOOK BACK:

On March 22, 2012, Florida governor Rick Scott appointed Angela Corey as Special Prosecutor to investigate the killing of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. On the evening of February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida, George Zimmerman, a 28 year-old neighborhood watch volunteer armed with a 9mm Kel-Tec pistol, shot to death Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17 year-old, in a gated community. A few hours after the killing, the Sanford Police Department determined that there was no "probable cause" to arrest George Zimmerman, who claimed that he acted in self-defense. Martin was returning to the home of his father's fiancee after purchasing a can of iced tea and a bag of Skittles candy at a local convenience store. Zimmerman told police that Martin was the aggressor and photos of Zimmerman the night of the incident show him with a bloodied, broken nose and other injuries.
The decision by Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee and Seminole County State Attorney Norm Wolfinger not to arrest and charge Zimmerman with a crime triggered outrage fueled by social media including a petition on Change.org calling for his prosecution which garnered over 2.2 million signatures, the largest in Change.org's history. Following growing protests, including some 30,000 people in Sanford, Florida alone, as well as media coverage and engagement of the FBI, both police chief Bill Lee and state attorney Norm Wolfinger resigned from the investigation and state attorney Angela Corey took over. The case has fueled a national debate over racial profiling, gun control, institutional racism in law enforcement agencies, and the role of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) in pushing for pro-gun laws like Florida's "Stand Your Ground" bill.

Vast Study, Mammograms Do More Harm Than Good?

Vast Study, Mammograms Do More Harm Than Good
OK, it appears; I've been proven, right (correct) again... I've lived long enough to see the advent of mammography in our daily life and right from the start, I had my suspicions. It just didn't make sense that a yearly, (or any time) injection of toxicity into the breasts could be beneficial and not have, whatsoever, any harmful effects. Look at the below stats and come to your own conclusion. thinkingblue
80 percent, of breast lumps are NON-cancerous.70 percent, of breast cancers are found through self breast-exams.About 80 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer.The toxic effects of mammogram radiation are finally being acknowledged as a significant factor in the development of breast cancer. Several recent studies have clearly shown that breast cancer screenings may be causing women more harm than good.MORE HERE: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/03/03/experts-say-avoid-mammograms.aspx
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS: BTW, I've only had one in my life and that was one too many! If I had had one every year since age 20, that would be 50 mammograms instead of the one, (none of which I needed). thinkingblue
Risks and dangers of mammography in women younger than age 50:Higher risk for breast cancer risk due to radiation exposureRoutine mammograms in young women increase the risk for future breast cancer due to direct radiation exposure to breast tissue. For young women who have a high risk of breast cancer because of genetic mutations, the radiation from yearly mammograms may make the risk even higher. It is quite possible that women who may never have developed breast cancer in their lifetime may get this disease in their 50s, 60s, or later, from having routine yearly mammograms in their 30s or 40s. We are exposing millions of young women to such radiation without fully understanding the future impact. Low-dose radiation from mammograms and chest X-rays increases the risk of breast cancer in young women who are already at high risk because of family history or genetic susceptibility. High-risk women, especially those under 30, may want to consider switching to an alternative screening method such as magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, which does not involve exposure to radiation.     The annual mammograms gives a much higher dose of radiation than a typical chest x-ray. and it has accumulative effect on the body. In addition to exposing the body every year to radiation, many women must have additional screening when they receive a false-positive result, adding to further radiation exposure. Nobody knows exactly how much the risk for cancer is increased due to having regular mammograms in young women, but it is quite possible that the medical establishment and the American Cancer Society are not emphasizing this risk, or are not aware of it, as much as they should.The premenopausal breast is very sensitive to radiation, each rad of exposure increasing breast cancer risk by 1 percent, resulting in a cumulative 10 percent increased risk over ten years of premenopausal screening, usually from ages 40 to 50. Risks are even greater for "baseline" screening at younger ages, for which there is little or no evidence of any future relevance.    Statistically, some women have approximately as much chance of getting breast cancer from repeated mammograms as they have of the testing finding earlier cancers. Yes, you might be one of those rare women whose life expectancy may be enhanced by early detection. But you might also be someone who develops breast cancer from the yearly radiation exposure.   See this excellent article written by a respected university affiliated medical doctor that reviews the risk of radiation from mammography and exposes the profit motive of certain corporations and organizations, and forward this article to anyone who you think would benefit, including your doctor,http://www.thehastingscenter.org/Bioethicsforum/Post.aspx?id=4194Article Here: http://www.raysahelian.com/mammography.html
Who invented the first mammography machine?X-rays were used until 1966 when the first mammography machine was developed. Albert Salomon is considered to be the inventor of breast radiology. Source(s): http://www.gehealthcare.com
Have You Ever Met A Nice, Polite and Smart Tea Party Member?
Neither have I… Neither has Al Sharpton. Watch Politics Nation to see this beyond outrageous, nutty Tea Party woman asking why President Obama hasn't been executed while US Rep. Jim Bridenstine shrugs off questioner and agrees that President Obama is LAWLESS!..thinkingblue
In a video circulating online, supporters of Oklahoma congressman Jim Bridenstine, called for the 'impeachment' and 'execution' of President Obama in a town hall meeting. "Obama is not president, as far as I'm concerned. He should be executed as an enemy combatant," said an unidentified woman in the video. "I can't tell you, or I can't say because we are in a public place, this guy is a criminal." Bridenstine responded to the woman, stating "everybody knows the lawlessness of this president," however he never said anything about the execution of Obama or agreed with the women on those charges. Bridenstine also did not correct the statements during the meeting. "The only way I see out of this is to overwhelmingly change the senate, so that we can then impeach the SOB," said another unidentified woman. "You know, you look so sweet..." said Bridenstine to the woman.
Coming to a city near you...
San Francisco's New Disruption
EXCERPT: The view looks different from inside the shuttle. Prominent venture capitalist Tom Perkins publicly compared San Francisco's "rising tide of hatred of the successful" to the Nazis' hatred of the Jews. (He later apologized for his choice of words.)
ACCORDING TO TOM PERKINS WE 98%, ARE NAZIS'... WHAT A WEALTHY, SELFISH ASS!thinkingblue
The gap between rich and poor has grown in the U.S. since the early 1970s. From 2009 to 2012, the top 1% of incomes rose by more than 30%, while the rest grew less than half a percent. The issue is especially painful in San Francisco, a town named for a saint who stripped off his garments and embraced a life of poverty. As America's countercultural hub, it welcomed the bearded beatniks and Summer of Love hippies more than a generation ago. Locals have long been proud of liberal policies that forget no one and tolerate nearly everyone (except people who put recyclables in the wrong bins). But the makeup of the city is changing, and its housing spiral is becoming a national cautionary tale; a Washington mayoral candidate recently raised the specter of becoming "like San Francisco," where the middle class is an endangered species.
Attention All Floridians
it's time to vote this idiot out!
Eighty-two percent of Floridians support the legalization of medical marijuana, but Gov. Rick Scott isn't one of them. Apparently, despite the broadly supported issue heading to the ballot at the same time as his re-election, Scott announced he would vote against legalization.
According to the Associated Press, a spokesman for Scott said the governor "has empathy for people battling difficult diseases, but he's also seen the damage drug abuse can do."
This isn't much of a surprise. Scott supported Attorney General Pam Bondi's unsuccessful efforts to keep the issue off the ballot based on the wording of the question.
However, it might not be the best move for his re-election chances. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, Scott's stance places him among only 16 percent of Floridians who don't support the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes.
The issue will likely have ramifications in Scott's re-election campaign, during which he's widely expected to face now-Democrat Charlie Crist. Democratic strategists hope the issue brings out more liberal-minded voters en masse to the midterm election.
Weed Truth
What is it about the Republicans and their disgust towards common sense...? Inquiring minds would like to know! thinkingblue
Marijuana is "less toxic" than alcohol, Marijuana Policy Project, Aug. 15, 2013
A video billboard at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway made this claim and sorting it out hinged on how you define toxic. Saying that pot is less toxic than alcohol doesn't mean that it is harmless. But in one key respect, marijuana is safer than alcohol. A massive dose of alcohol can kill while the same has never been observed with marijuana. By one measure, alcohol is 100 times more toxic than marijuana. We rated this claim Mostly True. (Click Here For More)
